At Killer Cleanups, we recently completed a stunning flower bed installation project that we’re incredibly proud of — and the results speak for themselves. Our crew transformed a plain, shaded yard into a lush, low-maintenance garden using native perennials, deer-resistant plants, and custom brick edging designed to match the home's aesthetic.

Every flower bed we install starts with preparation — and this one was no exception. First, we dug a trench around the perimeter of the bed to ensure proper drainage and structural integrity. We laid down gravel stone, poured concrete, and carefully set each brick to create a strong, clean edge that won’t shift with time.

This property sits in a shady area, with heavy deer traffic — so plant selection was everything.

We filled the bed with a mix of shade-loving perennials that thrive in Ohio’s climate and require minimal upkeep. The stars of the show included:

• Astilbe, for its soft, feathery blooms

• A colorful variety of native perennials selected for staggered blooming throughout the season

• Five Green Gem Boxwoods to anchor the corners and add year-round structure

Every plant we chose is deer-resistant and adapted to the Northeast Ohio climate, ensuring this landscape stays beautiful — without constant replanting or maintenance.

Our crew made sure this bed didn’t just look great — it’s built for the long haul. The concrete-backed brick edging keeps mulch and soil in place, and the carefully layered stone base improves drainage and prevents frost heaving.
